We decided that it was time for a weekend get away in our trailer, normally we are full timers but with covid that put a damper on the camping season. We called around for some where close to Windsor and this place seemed to fit the bill. We are also Good Sam members so we got a small discount on our stay (Not well advertised).
Our site was a decent size, easily accessible and reasonable flat. plenty of shade from the trees around us which was nice, it was fairly quiet, no extreme neighbors making any noise to keep us awake all night which is a bonus.
My only complaint would be that they do not allow golf carts for weekend campers, We are a mature couple in our 40's with an electric golf cart that we rely on to get around. I have psoriatic arthritis throughout my body and my wife has arthritis in her knees.
We would have liked to see the whole campground but were not able to see it as we aren't able to walk long distances. I did however see a weekender with a golf cart on their property with the trailer to tow it in and out. This made me upset as they probably don't rely on the mobility as we do. My F350 Dually is way to big to be driving up and down all of the roads all day long with kids playing and people walking their dogs etc.
I feel that if your going to have this rule for 1 person it should be for all people. If you are caught being stupid then you should be asked to leave plain and simple, My cart is insured and I am a responsible adult. I don't drink or do any type of drugs so I am not sure why I am not allowed to use my Golf cart.
We had a second weekend booked 2 weeks after this stay with our 2 grandkids but decided to cancel it as there isn't much to do at the campground with little kids. We cant even keep them busy with golf cart rides, so we found a site available at the Windsor Campground where they have a fishing pond, the pool is supposed to be open and you can use your own golf cart for $5/Day which is fine with us.
We may try this place again next year when hopefully everything is back to "normal" and the pool is open and there are things to do. Hopefully they will change the policy for golf carts or exceptions for people with disabilities (I have a government placard).
Otherwise over all the staff was friendly towards us, they gave our dogs treats at the gate which they enjoyed and it was quiet.
It seems like as soon as campgrounds turn into RV Resorts they aren't fun anymore, Leisure lake in Ruthven used to be a fun place to camp until it got bought out by a corporate RV Resort, They put in new pools and splash pad for kids but raised rates and took away all the fun of camping. It seems like this is happening at this place also, I remember when jelly stone was a fun place to camp and have a good time. RIP Good times, at least I still have my memories (for now).
All was amazing except for the mildly weak Wi-Fi connection. It is perfect if you are planning to go somewhere in Amherstburg or South Windsor.
Campground is nice with larger sites. It would be nice if the pool was open. We visit 3/4 times a year and we we6told at the beginning of last season they were putt6in a new pool, still not done. I don't understand what Covid has to do with the completion of the pools.
Great place. Not perfect but they try their best to make it great for everyone. Love it here!
