Root Radical CSA Farm

We've had organic veggies from Root Radical CSA for 11 years and couldn't imagine a summer season without them! I love having one stop per week to pick up the great variety of veggies, instead of searching through many stores and markets. And the vegetables are so fresh that they last far longer than ones bought in the store. I am very happy to support a local farmer and therefore decrease my food travel miles. We have a full share for a family of two and find the amounts of veggies just right. We receive storage items for the fall and winter and make sauces and herbs for our freezer, just for a little taste of summer year round. The recipes and newsletters are great ways of feeling a part of our CSA family.

My husband and I have been with Root Radical CSA for about 10 years. When it comes to the food we put into our bodies we are particular- nutritious, tasty and ethically produced are key- Root Radical fits our needs perfectly. When we started with a full share every week, we had a surplus and would share our bounty with friends to make room before the next pick up- this made us very popular! We find the alternating week schedule suits our needs well. Emily is always happy to coordinate an alternate collection day (or other scenario) to remove any potential stress due to share pick up day/travel conflicts. She sends helpful reminders in advance of pick up- or if for some reason we are no shows- so that she can find a way to get us our vegetables. I appreciate the option to share our produce with the food bank or Loving Spoonful. The sliding scale option for share price is brilliant. Pick up day is always an adventure. Much of the veg are staples in our kitchen but, from week to week, we are liable to find something with which we are less familiar. Emily provides recipe ideas to assist. Root Radical has expanded our vegetable horizons, and this keeps our meals interesting. The “love it or leave it” bin allows us to exchange things we already have growing in our own gardens for something we just can’t get enough of. Garlic! Yay garlic! We have become more attuned to following the natural growing seasons since starting with Root Radical. Nothing tastes better than local food, in its natural season.

We love the produce we get from Root Radical. Nothing beats discovering what fresh seasonal delights await us each week. The quality is top notch, and Emily is super. My personal favourite are the carrots – the taste is like no other – they are so good very few get cooked because I’ve already devoured them. We used to have a backyard garden, but the Root Radical delivery, we no longer. Gives us quality produce, less effort, but still feel we are close the earth.

Emily is one of the best growers I have ever met! Our family has been Root Radical CSA members for many years and Emily consistently impresses us with her high quality, beautiful organic vegetables. She always provides very generous quantities of nicely cleaned vegetables with a great balance of staples and fun unique varieties such as watermelon radishes! My children are always excited to see what is in our weekly box and dig in before we even get home! It makes me happy to know that I am feeding my children nourishing vegetables and that they have the opportunity to know the farmer and have a connection to their food source. It also makes me happy to know that we are supporting a healthy environment as Emily’s farm practices are outstanding.

Emily’s communication with members is excellent. Weekly newsletters provide a list of vegetables to expect and include recipes and news from the farm. She hosts wonderful events at the farm which helps create community and connection to the land and our food source.

We can’t say enough about Emily’s work ethic, organizational skills, and attention to detail. She provides an excellent product and we would highly recommend it to anyone!

Our family has been members of Root Radical CSA for ten years. We joined before we had children, and are now so grateful that our children have grown up knowing their farmer, and a life of eating seasonally and supporting local. We are grateful to have access to organic, nutritionally dense food that is delicious and fresh. Every week is a treat when we access our share, it's really fun for us and the children to follow the cycle of the growing season, then plan our meals around this. We are thankful for a mindful farmer, a vibrant community of like minded people, and incredible food in our community. Root Radical is a wonderful model for how communities should access food.
