Dawn House

Theres always room for improvement.Because there is such a big turn around in residents and their needs. Its forever changing. There are a couple of staff that go way beyond and above whats required of them. It would be difficult for any staff member not to feel some kind of personal conbection especially if they have been there awhile.
Theybreally dont get a normal break because like most women here they smoke and they dont seem to mind having us around (at times anyway unless one or more of us are having an episode and we get a little vocal) and usually the same staff get thd brunt of our anger unjustified but they just happen to be in the right place at the wrong time.
They ensure good xmas for us alk i remember one year the Executive Director Maggie Mclearn on CHRISTMAS day for our dinnet out of her own pocket i believe she ordered chineese food for us and the total bill was well over 450.00 csnadian

I stayed at Dawn House when it was located on Victoria Street. It truly was a G-d send when your in a bind. Just knowing you had a warm bed to sleep in and 3 squares a day ! The staff was always kind, caring & supportive ! I understand that now it's not a womans shelter exclusively. More a place to stay between homes as opposed to "Hoping you'll find a home" ! I give it 2 thumbs up !

Dawn-Houses is a good place for women like all places that does have issues staff try to work on those issues to the best of their ability in most cases the great learning opportunity I think sometimes that the staff overwhelmed and get preoccupied with other tasks other programmers are things going on but for the most part they've been supportive and it's been raining experience

I have lived at both Dawn house locations when it was on Victoria Street as a shelter dawn house helped me gain indepandce and helped me through a difficult time in my life that was five years ago now at its new location supportive housing I've been working through another very difficult point in my life I have my own apartment it's alot different than the shelter. I strongly believe that Kingston needs to haveore places like this for women /men and eventually for couples who have been together for quite a while while keeping it affordable and having staff who are not judgemental caring and always there for you just as they have been and still are at Dawn House my 💓 felt thanks .my hats off to all the staff/management. The Don house is a shelter for women some staff or more friendly than others they rely on government grants donations and keep in mind that the women stay in their new pay monthly rent and summer need of further housing in public support thank you for supporting the dawn house sincerely Rogers heaslip
