We just got back from a week at Sleepy Hollow and we will definitely be returning. We were a group of 3 trailers, 10 adults and 8 kids. We had a blast. Everyone was so friendly. The park is very clean. The playground is awesome. Our kids spent a lot of time playing there with the new friends they made. The beach is clean and the water is beautiful. From someone who isn’t a fan of seaweed, it gets my approval. There is a paddle board and Kayak available for free. The owners are amazing. So friendly and accommodating. If you are ATV lovers, this is the park for you. So many beautiful trails to explore. The only thing I’d like to see updated is the hydro. It is only 15amps, some sites are 20amp. 30amp is what we needed to be able to run our AC and a toaster/kettle/microwave. It definitely doesn’t deter us from coming back though.
See you next year, Sharon! 🥰
Awesome, friendly campground. Clean facility with private beach
Sharon and Rick are awesome. Had a great 4 days. We are definitely coming back. :)
I found this campground via Google search one week before Canada Day. I was looking for a large campsite for a party of 7. Sharon, an owner, was quick to reply to each of my emails as well as answered the phone and all my questions honestly.
I found it hard to find good pictures of their beach area on google so I am providing them with my review. The Beach is located across from the campground on Nila Road and the campground goes deep into the property up a laneway ascending a moderately steep grade. I drive a crossover and had zero issues reaching the upper campsites. I recommend planning to drive to and from the upper 'wilderness sites' if you have a few children.
There was adequate parking at the washroom. The washroom was adequate and clean and well ventilated. The playground is small but I was surprised at how much the four children in our party enjoyed it. I also appreciated Sleepy Hollow only charges for extra adults so our large group site (#10) was only $55 /night. There was ample parking for two crossovers on the site.
The site itself was two tiered. The tents you see in the photo are the lower tier. The upper tier was also large and we erected a 20ft tarp without any space issues and still had so much safe and secluded space for the kids the play.
This is a modest family run campground. The lower portion is packed with trailers and I experienced everyone to be polite, like a tiny village. The firewood is good quality, mostly cedar for us, and they deliver it on site which was perfect because of the incline and our party's needs. We even saw Sharon delivering wood to a neighboring site and asked her would she please bring more and she had an extra load on hand with her. Perfect.
I am the kind of person who makes my own fun camping, and doesn't mind if I have to pick up a few cans from the pit and some leftover tent stakes. The grass wasn't fresh mowed but it wasn't thick or unreasonable. No ticks, no pests. There are other wilderness sites with less privacy but Sharon was up front about which those were when I called to book. I read some of the critical reviews before I booked, however I feel if you are clear about what you need they will not steer you wrong. Trash and recycling disposal site were in excellent condition and easily accessible.
Alternatively, within 1km is a public beach we enjoyed, across from which was two large play structures and swings and a ball field. Also a general store at the same intersection that sells fresh coffee. Our party was talking about coming back as we packed up to leave. Definitely recommend.
*The only reason I held back the fifth star is because of my predisposition as a parent I prefer easy walking access. If this is not a consideration for you then consider it 5 stars for the wilderness site experience for two nights.
We randomly found this place as we were looking for a camp ground close to Haliburton. Our kids loved it and didn't want to leave. It had such a family oriented feel to it. We will be back!
The only note was that the Shower stall could use and upgrade.
