This summer I had a fantastic experience working with Don and Dee!
I went to The Movement PT over this summer with an injury that left me unable to run and limited my participation in crossfit. With the goal to get back to the activities that I love, my main goal along the way was to keep on moving! Being a healthcare professional myself I knew I was looking for a clinic which would support me in this.
I was able to maintain movement throughout my recovery and found both Don and Dee were excellent listeners and coaches along the way. Each session was unique and thoughtfully planned based on my needs.
In just a few weeks Don had me back on my feet running and working out to my heart's desire, and with Dee's help I felt increased energy levels and had less muscle soreness after tough workouts.
I can say with confidence that I made the right decision coming here for treatment and would recommend their services to anybody who is looking for patient centered, movement based treatment.
In the mean time you'll catch me running the escarpment stairs or crushing some lifts in the gym, cheers!
TL;DR - Good place, Don’s great, go here.
I sought physio treatment here based on the recommendation from a happy patient of The Movement. Don Lesar is a super physiotherapist and a really kind person. He was attentive, inquisitive, positive, encouraging, and skilled at co-creating a treatment plan that suited my needs. I have a spinal fusion for scoliosis that informs the range of motion in my spine and have spent $$$$ of dollars out of pocket in the past on treatments with various specialists for relief of pain and nerve issues. Don is the FIRST health care practitioner that has highlighted how well I can function, move, and work with my body instead of focusing on the limitations and making me feel restricted. Initially I was surprised he wasn’t focusing treatment time on manual adjustments or TENS machine sticky pads, but I came to understand it’s because he wanted real change for my health. I was accustomed to dumping money into appointments that focused on quick superficial treatment but if you come to The Movement, you better believe they’ll make you move. My treatments spanned multiple sessions and they were attuned to my lifestyle, movement patterns, and muscle deficiencies and Don was there to ensure those things improved with personalized training in the spacious and bright exercise area. At home I had access to their online video tutorials to remind me of the movement pattern with instructions on reps, sets, and frequency. He also helped me understand my migraine triggers, how to improve circulation to reduce nerve issues and how to explore movement in strengthening and stretching. His approach is to EMPOWER you to build a healthy relationship with your body. I’m most grateful for Don’s messaging which is changing the way I relate to my body - it no longer feels like something working against me. Thanks Don! I’ll see you the next time I trip on my pant leg and almost concuss myself.
I am a full service client who loves the services at The Movement. Physio has made me stronger, dietary guidance and support have fueled me well and massage helps me feel good and stay healthy for my next run. I’ve been going for months in preparation for the NYC Marathon in November. I highly recommend using one - or all - of the services offered at The Movement. A great investment in your health.
The philosophy of the team at The Movement is different compared to other physiotherapists - instead of just treating the symptoms of a specific injury or issue, they look at the overall function of your body and "prescribe" a specific strength and conditioning program to target your weaknesses and build load capacity. The overall atmosphere at the practice is laid back but professional, and the facility itself is modern and well-equipped. At The Movement you really feel like you're part of a team that is invested in your success, whether that's a return (and performance improvement) in your sport, or a return to a less painful state as you carry out the demands of your day-to-day life.
I came to The Movement for help with knee pain from running that I was unsuccessful in addressing in the past, and I started working with Will. He's proven to be a fount of knowledge and experience, and has helped immensely with my knee and has also branched out and started addressing my shoulder and back with a comprehensive plan that targets all of my issues (including the muscle between my ears). In addition to prescribing workouts, he's also been masterful at detailing the why and how of these workouts, like all great coaches do. I've interacted with a few members of their team, and they've got a stellar crew all around. The Movement space fosters a really positive and holistic vibe, and simply does good work. Doesn't matter where you're coming from or what your issues/needs are, The Movement's got you covered. Do yourself a favour and check these folks out.
