Sand Hill Park

Nice place to relax and walk the shoreline. Climbing the huge sand pile was a challenge but worth the effort once you get to the top.

I have always loved coming to the Sand Hill Park, and so do my kids. I find the bathrooms decent and they have showers near the front gates if you need. Animals near the front gate are always nice to see and admire. They have have plenty of activities to do just make sure you bring a basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, etc. On the weekends they have a tractor to take you to the beach and back again if your not the walking type. I would rate it a five out of five but the 1 concession stand and 1 variety store are a bit pricey and I have to admit I am a bit bias with my liking of this campground as I use to come here with my parents and siblings when I was little and always had a great time.

I would like to address some of the negative comments in the reviews I have read about Sand Hill Park. We are seasonal campers with our 4 kids. The reason we chose to stay in Sand Hill for the summer is because ALL the signs say this is a "Kids Park First!" So every rule is designed to make the park enjoyable for families with children. Our kids love it there. If you want to go to the trailer with 40 people on one lot and play an accordion and tambourine all day and night, loud enough that people 3 sites away can't hear their own music, maybe Sand Hill isn't the place for you. If you want to grab a bunch of 20 something buddies and walk around with a cooler of beer drinking off site in front of children, maybe Sand Hill isn't for you. If you want to sit up all night drinking around your fire talking loud enough that you're disturbing the families that paid thousands to be there for the season, maybe Sand Hill isn't the place for you.

People can make up any excuse they want to make it sound like they did nothing wrong, and blame the staff who are there to make it enjoyable for everyone else. The fact remains, if you are at a park that caters to families, and you want to ignore the rules that make it a great place for 99% of us, then maybe Sand Hill isn't for you. If you want to drive fast in the park where my 2 year old is walking around, or steal my firewood, or drinks from my outdoor kitchen, then consider yourself lucky that you're dealing with a diligent park employee and not me or my wife!

If you are looking for a fun, safe place for your family to go and enjoy the park, or the snack bar that has $2 kids cones bigger than my fist, or the 450 foot sand hill, or a beach on Lake Erie, or watch your kids feed the ducks, goats and family of elk, or ride the mountain bike pats, or watch the bands in the park on Saturday nights, or get on board with the tractor rides, or the kids bike decorating contests, or any of the dozens of other fun things the Sand Hill Park provides, maybe this IS the park for you.
