Root canals are never fun. Recently I was unlucky enough to be diagnosed with a tooth that needed a root canal by my regular dentist. This is my second tooth that has required this procedure. The first root canal was done by Dr. Hamburg 2.5 years ago. I was quite nervous about that at the time. Dr. Hamburg and his staff repaired that tooth and I have been quite happy with the results.

Clearly when this other tooth needed a root canal I requested to see Dr. Hamburg again. Despite the COVID restrictions and the recent demonstrations in downtown Ottawa, Dr. Hamburg was able to schedule me within 2 weeks.

The office, waiting room and the room where the procedure was done were all impeccably clean. Everyone in the office takes the COVID precautions very seriously and everyone was extremely polite and efficient.

Dr. Hamburg started with an examination to confirm my normal dentist's diagnosis. He was able to confirm that the nerve in the tooth was no longer functioning using a series of simple tests.

Before starting, the procedure itself was clearly explained to me (even though I had already had this work done in the past). I was given ample time to read the terms and conditions (I understand that it is impossible to guarantee such work).

After signing, Dr. Hamburg and his assistant proceeded to go forward with the work, keeping me informed along the way of what to expect and how progress was going. All the while, calming jazz music was filling the room. A very nice touch when I was doing my best to meditate to keep my mind off the activity going on.

Part way through the procedure there was a short break to allow everyone to stretch/relax for a few minutes. This was a very welcome break and allowed me to relax.

When the procedure was complete, Dr. Hamburg took some X-rays and showed me the results which showed the roots of the tooth had been filled in with a rubber compound.

Like any dental procedure there is "freezing" of the area which Dr. Hamburg did very thoroughly. The procedure itself was no more painful than getting a regular filling (just longer).

In the end, if you have to get this procedure done, it is good to have a well experienced endodontist perform it. I was very grateful to have been in such good care as with Dr. Hamburg, and his assistant Justine.

That evening, Dr. Hamburg personally called to follow up with how my recovery was going.

Dr Hamburg performed a challenging root canal on one of my teeth yesterday. My mouth was well numbed and He explained everything he did as he went along which helped set my mind at ease. There was a follow up call in the evening to check on me. I appreciated the care received and would recommend Dr Hamburg for any root canal procedure one may have to undergo .

I went to Dr. Hamburg for my root canal, on a referral from my dentist because I wanted the best. He took time before, and during the procedure to explain everything. I was convinced that a completely different tooth was causing my problems. He examined my teeth in great detail, and we were able to find the culprit! I was so overjoyed, as I had not been able to chew anything on the left side of my mouth for some time. Now I can!!!! Dr. Hamburg’s attention to detail is impressive. He even called me later that day, to see how I was feeling. Talk about extra special treatment! I HIGHLY recommend him. I hope that I never need a root canal again, but I will most certainly see Dr. Hamburg for it if I do!

I just had a root canal done by Dr. Hamburg today. I must admit any dental work, specially a root canal, is not what one would look forward to ; however, as Dr. Hamburg was recommended highly and my wife had her dental work done by him and she was happy with his work, I knew I was in good hands. The procedure took less than an hour. Dr. Hamburg put my mind at ease by explaining each stage of the procedure as he worked. As a patient, I had a pleasant experience and found Dr. Hamburg well-spoken, friendly and professional. He cares about the well-being of his patients as I received a call, a few hours after the procedure, from Dr. Hamburg personally asking if I was okay.
