I came down from Montreal with Skates on my mind .Skates that would properly fit. These would be the very last pair I would buy at age 68.
Remember it was Covid time . The store had proper protocols in place . In fact they were no longer doing fittings for hockey Skates. Only figure Skates were being done and hockey skate sharpening. However one could call and make a special appointment. I did this from their parking lot.
Upon hearing I had come from Montreal just to shop at this special store, Denis was kind enough to have the wonderful ‘Gibby’ open a spot for me.
She asked what my budget was . I knew the price levels for new hockey skates ranged from low hundreds to thousand dollar models.
I came knowing that once you take the skates away and try them on the ice, there can be no return / they become second hand, so I indicated that I would only consider cost after finding my ideal skate. And I was going to be picky! Only the TRUE good fit with no pressure points on toes or arches or ankles would be acceptable .
Gibby was an Angel . She fit me through 5 pairs even after taking measurements! She was pleased I was taking such care and that I knew there. Oils be no returns.
We took our time and finally strained the “aha” or “Cinderella moment”.
“Right!” She said, “time to heat them up in the oven
and then mold them to your feet .”
Now, there was no going back.
“Uh… I think I will now ask for the price. “
She pointed to the various pairs she and I had agreed were not quite right, pairs that for reasons pertaining to my physical reality, age and expected use would not be suitable . I would have bought any one of them had she indicated they were right.
We’ll all of those beauties range from $400 up to $600. I could only imagine how much the ones I had agreed to would cost.
“0k, tell me, how much for these!”
“$250”
“Done! Heat them up!”
“ I suppose I should buy one of those fancy bags to go with the skates?”
“Do you own an old shoulder sack - or kiddy knap sack?”
“Yes I do.”
“Then for your purposes, use that.”
I have never been so impressed. Great service that reflect my true needs and budget!
Thank you Gibby and Denis !
All the best, Les McConnell from Chateauguay Quebec.
Great service repairing skates as well as purchasing new ones. Watched the whole team deal professionally with each other and customers while my skates were being fitted. Went above and beyond with me and worked hard to accommodate several other customers while I was there. Great job guys! Thank you
Great service. Great prices. Great selection.
