I've hosted several yoga retreats at Sugar Ridge and it is a magical holistic place, just over an hour drive from Toronto. Liz is an incredible vegan cook and creates a warm, nurturing, relaxing environment. Highly recommended at all times of year for an escape and refresh.
I stayed here for a week in February 2019. Started off with the Winter Detox/Juice Cleanse retreat and I loved my stay so much, that I decided to extend it and join the Ski/Yoga retreat that followed! I also did an 8-hour Intro to Mindfulness Workshop back in October 2018.
The staff are amazing - a team of truly caring and kind people! Shoutout to Sam, Tara, and the rest of the crew! The food is AMAZING. You'll probably see that come up in most of the reviews, because it's true! It's all delicious and nourishing for your body AND soul! :) The place itself is so magical - surrounded by peace and quiet, nothing but nature (farms, forests, and close to Georgian bay)! I've been there in the fall and winter and both times I found it very peaceful and beautiful. I was hesitant initially to go in the winter but I'm glad I did. Winter definitely brings with it a special charm. It felt like a winter wonderland. The cabins are a quick walk (literally seconds) from the retreat centre and are very clean and cozy. Even during a really windy snowstorm, it was so warm and cozy in there! And the walkways and driveways were all plowed quite quickly. The retreat centre is quite beautiful and the studio (where the yoga/meditation and workshops happen) is quite a special space. The bathrooms and showers are super clean and the water temperature/pressure in the showers is perfect!
The dog hosts are so, SO loving. I don't think this retreat would've been the same without them ;) Eddie and Oliver are wonderful and will fill your heart with so much joy.
Liz and Kurt are wonderful hosts (and human beings) that have so much to offer - I think I learned more during my stay there then I have in my life... lol! But really - I learned so much about myself, the world, nutrition, mindfulness, you name it! They will make sure you are comfortable and accommodated however you need (dietary restrictions, etc). We were also offered massages, pedicures, etc., that were done by some lovely locals that dropped in during the day. Liz also set-up a Zumba class and a restorative yoga class for us during the detox week, which was super fun! Psychotherapy sessions are also offered, if you need them. I did a few sessions with Liz and it was honestly life-changing. She is very knowledgeable and a truly inspiring and genuine person.
There's so much that I can say about Sugar Ridge... you need to go experience it for yourself. Whatever it is you are looking for, you can probably find it there. Whether you just want solitude and nature, a relaxing getaway, a full blown "reset", or some serious self-exploration or healing... you can probably find it there. I truly believe everyone can benefit from spending some time there.
I've had the pleasure of visiting Sugar Ridge twice -- once in the dead of winter and once at the height of summer. Both experiences were exceptional. The food is not only delicious and lovingly prepared, it makes you feel great -- healthy and vital. The setting is beautiful in any season but the owner / host, Liz Frost is what truly what makes Sugar Ridge special. If you are looking for bliss, this is the place to find it. I look forward to getting back as soon as I can.
I recently went to a meditation retreat at Sugar Ridge and I was blown away with how amazing it was. From start to finish I felt so welcomed and at home in this wonderfully cozy and beautiful atmosphere Liz and her team have created. The food was absolutely delicious (I'm not vegan but I bought the cookbook because the food was so wonderful and it will help me eat cleaner) and the meditation and yoga experiences were mind-opening and extremely relaxing. The cabins were clean and comfortable and it was just so nice to be out in nature. I cannot recommend Sugar Ridge highly enough. I think everyone would benefit from a relaxing retreat at Sugar Ridge.
Last weekend was my second visit to Sugar Ridge and I loved it even more than my first! There is a calming, healing energy to this wonderful place thanks to Liz and Kurt. I was touched by Liz's warmth and compassion. The cabins are cozy, I met some new friends, and the food is out of this world!! Can't wait to try some of the recipes from their cookbook. After a weekend of hiking, yoga and mindful meditation I have returned home feeling refreshed and renewed. I can't wait to join Liz on her Asia retreat in the fall :)
