Exceptional place to train.
A great family oriented training environment. Steve is very knowledgeable, and a great instructor. Many different classes available to choose from.
If you are interested in learning how to fight for self-defense in the street or for competition in the ring I highly recommend Combative Concepts. Having studied various martial arts for 20 years I can say that this gym is by far my favourite. Classes are divided into their respective arts such as Jeet Kune Do (a must!), boxing, kickboxing, MMA, grappling, weapons, sparring etc, which allows you to focus on specific areas if you feel like you need more improvement, or if they are simply your favourite to train in. Steve’s approach to fighting is to focus on practical, pressure tested techniques while developing physical and mental attributes to execute them as efficiently as possible. Steve himself is very professional, respectful and an extremely knowledgeable teacher who focuses on bring out the best in his students. The students who train here are also very kind and respectful which creates an environment where everyone will feel welcome.
The gym itself is well supplied with its own ring, punching bags, grappling dummies, Wing Chun dummies, exercise equipment, training weapons and more.
Decent gym, Good amount of equipment, good trainer. I find things here are too rigidly structured, one week "unlimited" pass is not truly unlimited, you can't spar or attend the advanced classes. In order to spar at all one has to sign up with WAKO Canada. Would be nice if they just had a waiver to sign prior to sparring like at many other gyms. Weapons classes here are pretty good.
I used to train under Steve over a decade ago, way back when he was at his previous location. He's very knowledgable and well trained. He's also very patient, kind, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure his students are learning and developing accordingly. I was in high school at the time and he was very accommodating given my financial circumstances. Great teacher and overall person!
