I really wanted to love this trail. Unfortunately, due to hurricane Fiona there were just so many dead trees and we turned back halfway through as it was a tad depressing. The first little bit was really nice though.
While visiting PEI on vacation, we wanted to do something different and since we liked hiking this seemed ideal. We were surprised to see so many trees down from Fiona, however all fallen trees were cleared from the trails. We saw lady slipper orchids amongst the fallen logs and American bald eagles taking the path along the river, and returning via the shortcut. Bring bug spray!
This trail was covered with moss, so it felt like a fairy tale. I think this hike was a great place to visit and different scenery. It's definitely as easy hike though.
Great way to spend a morning, some beautiful views! Look out for tree roots ( there's a lot! ) and cute little squirrels. Not too difficult and lots of signage along the way to let you know where you are.
Amazing trail for hiking only 15 minutes out of Charlottetown. Well marked trails with a map at every junction. Parking available. Mosquitoes are absolutely terrible early summer, though. Some sections of the trail can be flooded after a good rain, but most of it is walkable.
