Awesome site for a quick getaway from the city. Quiet hiking, great interpretive signs, and an incredible variation of forest, especially Tamaraks and Birch. Stay quiet in the meadows and watch the treeline to spot some wildlife.
Probably one of my favourite places to go for a relaxing walk.
Anybody in Edmonton who doesn't know about this yet is missing out, it's a lovely space quite close to town (about 20-30 min drive). There's a nice parking area with bathroom facilities to get you started. A few loops of hiking trails, both fairly flat and range from 5-8 km for an easy walk.
My favorite thing about this place is the diversity of foliage you'll walk through from open meadow, to old growth jack pine, and enchanted birch forests. It really feels like you're ages away from civilization while you're out there.
Go get some #forestbathing time in, it's good for you.
Close to the city paths are well maintained. Quite a few alternate routes. Bring big spray. No bikes, dogs or horses.
Beautiful aspen trails. If you are going on a hot day, start by heading north on the main trail so you have more shade at the end of your home. There are lots of porcupines around. No dogs permitted on the trails.
