Hiked through here in July 1981 with Camp Cheif Hector (YMCA) on our way to Mt. Assiniboine. At that time it was a Parks Canda Ranger Station only. So they could clear and improve the surounding trails. Funny there used to be a horse corral near it as well as a wall of empty beer bottles (where the wood is now stacked) from the Rangers off hours. By the way on our trip to Mt. Assinaboine we asked the Rangers about the trail. All they would say is that it was there. We soon got lost and ended up having to bush wack our way to the Porcupine Camp site. Will never forget having to take a dump in an outhouse that a bear had distroyed the door off of due to somone throughing left over food down in it. Good times for all.

A moderate difficulty hike out from Sunshine Valley. Holds 12 people. Two large bench tables and a wood burning stove make it super cozy on a cold night. Another short walk to Egypt Lake and Pharoah Lake. Would make a good base camp for some nearby scrambles.

Beautiful shelter and stunning scenery. The wood stove helps a lot in winter. Wood was well stocked. Larches were in full bloom. Can't see the cabin from healy pass or scarab lake. Lots of day hikes in this area. Not busy in october. Winter conditions.

A typical shelter, has 6 bunks and can accommodate 12 people (2 per bunk). There is a shared dining area with a stove and lots of firewood, great place to dry your gear.
I've visited both in the winter and in the summer.
If you haven't booked the entire hut, expect rowdy bunk mates. People like to drink and party.
Could use some updating or repainting, lots of smoke residue on the ceiling and walls.
