Outer Shores Lodge

Scott and his staff are amazing. From the moment you are greeted in Bamfield you feel very welcome and can tell Outer Shores is going to be something special. This was the perfect getaway for our group of 8. The lodge, food, excursions, everything was absolutely perfect. We will be back!

This is my new favorite spot on the island. I celebrated my 50th birthday with a group of 8 last week and I'm already planning my next visit. I had high hopes and everything exceeded expectations.

Our host (Scott) took us hiking, kayaking, tidepooling and on a boat trip around Barkley Sound. Not only is he a great guy but, as a marine scientist, he has encyclopedic knowledge of local flora and fauna. The nuggets of wisdom that he shared made the trip extra fun.

The staff was incredibly fun and friendly. The food was simply terrific and rivaled the very best restaurants in my home town (Victoria).

Finally, the lodge itself was terrific. You couldn't ask for a better setting, with access to a private beach/bay right on Barkley Sound. There's a wonderful little hilltop for watching sunsets. Jump in the hot tub to relax at the end of the day. Beds are very comfortable and finishings are modern.

Our visit was perfect and I have no doubt you'll feel the same.

This place is AMAZING. The location is incredible with beautiful views to the outer shores of the Pacific Ocean, rugged coast and beaches, and west coast forests of ancient trees. There is so much to experience and Outer Shores Lodge was the perfect base as we explored many rich cultural and natural places: walking along Brady Beach, exploring the forests in Bamfield, the marine field school... I can highly recommend a trip to the Huu-Ay-Aht village of Kiixin to learn about the First Nation's history and culture in the region. Scott and Russ have created a welcoming lodge. The team at Outer Shores took incredibly good care of us during our stay. The meals created by Jeanne and Hugo were delicious and creative. Jenn made sure that everything worked smoothly and we could relax and enjoy our vacation. The attention to detail was impressive - from the tastefully appointed rooms to the tours and sea kayaking. We took the Frances Barkley passenger ferry in to Bamfield from Port Alberni - definitely worth the trip. For something different, we took Ron's Taxi ride back to Port Alberni to experience 90 km of logging roads. We will be back to Outer Shores Lodge. My husband and I went to Outer Shores Lodge to get away from life and reconnect with nature for a few days. Scott was our host for our stay, he was knowledgeable of the local area and its ecology, and very accommodating. The rest of the at the lodge were also wonderful people, and the meals that the chef's provided were amazing. We are vegetarian and all of the meals we received never felt like the vegetarian aspect of it was an after thought. Realizing I had to cook my own meals again once I got home definitely made me want to go back!
During our stay we did multiple excursions, some on their Zodiac boat, some hiking and tide-pooling with the rest of the group there, and kayaking. We also had time to go out and do some things as just the two of us, such as paddle boarding and more hiking. You can choose to participate in the excursions as much or as little as you choose. The lodge is certainly comfortable and the view is amazing so you'll still have an enjoyable time if you choose to stay behind on occasion. You certainly don't need to travel far to experience the local wildlife!
Our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. There is only 1 TV in the lodge and that is in the main living area for showing the local tides, winds, and weather for that day/week. This was one thing that I wasn't expecting about the lodge, but that I loved. I never once missed it.
If you are considering Outer Shores for your next vacation then I would say go ahead and book it because you won't be disappointed.

We just had the absolute best experience at Outer Shores Lodge. Russ, Scott and the whole team were the very best hosts and thought of every detail to make our experience so memorable! We booked the entire lodge and enjoyed the weekend with our friends and family to celebrate our wedding and wow, we are so so so grateful. We will be remembering these memories for the rest of our lives and look forward to our next visit! The wildlife was phenomenal (bears, whales and eagles all from the lodge), beautiful accommodations, exquisite food, and the service was above all else! Thank you Outer Shores!
