Whiteshell Fish Hatchery

I visited the Whiteshell Fish Hatchery Tour last weekend and honestly, I was quite surprised by the experience.

The serene setting of the hatchery amidst the picturesque Whiteshell Provincial Park is definitely one of its biggest draws. The excellent guides led our group through the different stages of fish hatchery; from egg collection, incubation to the eventual release of fish into their natural habitats. This process-oriented tour brings one close to the natural biology of fishes and offers a wonderful educational experience, especially for the kids

Also, while the hatchery facilities are well maintained some Better signage leading up to the hatchery and heighten the overall visitor experience.

Great tour, learned a lot about trout

This is the hatchery that is the source of the trout for Manitoba. It is open Saturdays during the summer for a tour of the interpretive centre and the rearing pens. If you are lucky, you can witness a release of trout into the Whitesell river!

Tour was a bit limited during a time in breeding but my son got to release a pail of fish into the wild.
