Great place to walk, run,and take your dog. kind of out of the way but worth the trip from Watertown area.nice trail on lake Ontario.
I nice, dog friendly, state park. Lots of trails of varying lengths. There are bag dispensers at the entrance and at a couple of the buildings for picking up after your dog, which is handy and seems to promote a much cleaner area. There are a few fenced in areas where you can let your furry friend play, off the leash, even if they aren't the most obedient. They are installing a new playground currently (October 2018) that is large and modern and looks to have a lot of fun activities for the kids. There are a couple historic buildings and some interesting info placards dotted around the park, as well as some lovely views of Lake Ontario.
We went there expecting to be able to get close to the water. We parked @ the main entrance and to a trail leading towards the water. It was quite a distance to walk before we could even see the water. And eventually the trail ran along side a sheer drop off to the water. We walked for a ways but we're not able to get to the water. Although the site of Lake Ontario was beautiful.
I'm not sure if we had walked further if we would've reached areas closer. The pictures the website looks like flat rocks by the lake.
We will return to go down a different road, Lighthouse Rd (?) To see if that gets closer. If anyone knows more about the park I would appreciate any info.
We went for a Geology lab and I thought it was a nice picturesque park. It's dog friendly and has a picnic spot overlooking Lake Ontario. Be careful when walking trails as there are steep cliffs along them that drop almost directly into the water. There are signs posted that the current is too rough there for swimming but I think one might be able to get away with it if one is careful enough and a relatively good swimmer. I might consider going back there sometime.
A great place with some nice trails. Snake trail goes right along side the water. The trail goes along the edge of a cliff most of the way so careful walking is required, although if you're an explorer there is some places you can climb down... at your own risk. A great view of lake Ontario.
