If you are going to Niagara Falls for the weekend I suggest a day trip to this fort. It has an amazing museum before you go to the fort. You can learn about its founding all the way up till today. It has a movie you can watch every half hour which was very informative. Then the fort itself is something to see. Inside they have everything set up as it would have been back in the day and it is truly a fun experience.
I went during mid winter, it was super cold I felt so bad for the employees/actors who were working outside! However, everything is well maintained and living conditions reflect well how things were for the soldiers back in time. I enjoyed the gun demonstration and getting to walk through all of the old buildings and watch soldiers cook soup in a cauldron over a fire. Wonderful experience and I would like to again during the summer.
Remember going there many years ago on school field trips. Went several times. Always fun. Took tour of the old fort. Learned about ghosts haunting the place. Would love to go back again.
We spent hours there because we enjoyed it so much. We were pleasantly surprised that our parking entry fee receipt got us a dollar for dollar discount to the museum.
Often and regularly scheduled artillery demonstrations within the fort Very knowledgeable guides. Snack shop within that serves hot and cold meals, and many fun flavors of ice cream.
It's been about 45 years since I visited Old Fort Niagra. The grounds are beautifully kept, the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about their job. The buildings, some built in the late 1700's are kept in excellent condition. The gift shop is small but very nice. The visitor center was very clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. History buffs should definitely see this site. Even the kids enjoy it.
