“I am a 58!year old active female (triathlons, cycling, skate skiing, downhill skiing), with musculoskeletal problems since my teens. I had Harrington Rod surgery in 1976 for scoliosis. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis (big toe, SI joints, above & below the rod) in my 20’s. I was in an MVA sustaining a fracture of C7(“broken neck”). For years, although I was very active (running & working out at gym) I did it with pain and frequent injuries. The osteoarthritis in my big toe was so severe (bone on bone) I had a joint replacement(successful????). Two years later I had the 2nd toe fused with surgery (tors are still curled under and twisted. In my early 50s I tore both rotator cuffs (two years apart). Since my 20s I have seen many physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, orthopaedic surgeons, accupuncture. More recently in the last 1 1/2 years I have been experiencing episodes of severe abdominal & back pain with severe vomiting requiring a trip to the hospital for IV medications. I was averaging 1-2 trips a month to the hospital. I had every gastric study you can think of with no answers. A couple of months ago it was suggested (at one of my trips to hospital) that the back pain was as a result of effects from the rod, The back pain/spasm pulled on the abdomen and set of my nervous (PNS) system causing unrelentless vomiting. I agree with this view (totally makes sense). I was told about Dane at Dungeon Performance Inc. of course, I was skeptics and hesitant. I cautiously booked an assessment as it was free so thought “what have I got to lose”. I was impressed by Dane’s knowledge but still had my “cautious” front on. I decided to try a few sessions. I have to tell you not to expect typical Physio/chiro assessment and treatment/exercises. Dane is so knowledgeable about musculoskeletal anatomy/function/ exercise. His treatment plan did not include tackling the actual site of problems hands on directly on those spots- which is contrary to all other treatments I have had over the years. He was confident that my symptoms were as a result of weak muscles/opposite strong muscles, with continued structural problems as a result of scoliosis (not fixed 100%), the rod and all my past injuries. At appointments, he gets certain muscles activated and puts me through specific exercises (numerous amazing equipment- much like no other I have seen). Although I still have symptoms, the time WITHOUT symptoms has been increasing in duration????. For the first time in many years I feel that I am in good hands and making progress which affect my life so positively forever. Although insurance companies don’t cover the treatments, I make these treatments a priority and feel they are worth it. PS- be ready to feel muscles that never knew you had. Joanne Scott”
