Great hike and phenomenal views!

Beautiful place to visit and camp

Absolutely beautiful, love this free piece of land to explore! Bugs are pretty bad in mid summer though. Other than that, everything is amazing . The water , the land , animals.. it was a very nice 2 night/ 3day camp.

I visited Mcrae lake bridge and waterfalls for the first time and camped on a designated campsite for the night a little ways over the bridge.. It had spectacular views and i was lucky to have it all to myself along side with 2 good friends and the wildlife.. The hike in was not to bad, just very muddy at some points considering the recent weather.. there seemed to be a bunch of campsites right before the bridge and it seemed as if there was a few to the left of the bridge after you go over it and a few to the right as well.. it was a very relaxing time and we got some good photos and some time out of the city. The only thing I was very disappointed with, was the amount of ignorance that people have for this beutiful destination. The amount of trash that was left around by previous visitors was unreal. The few campsites when you first come up to the bridge were absolutely trashed with cans, tin cans, chip bags, pop bottles, plastic cutlery, plastic cups, ripped garbage bags and so on.. it was very upsetting.. On the way out, my one buddy and I went to the campsites on the north side of the bridge where we had stayed for the night and filled up half of a bag with trash.. I had brought a strong heavy duty garbage bag to carry out our trash, even though we had barely to begin with as we are conscious of our waste. After picking up as much garbage as we could on the north side of the bridge, we packed up our campsite and crossed the bridge to head back to the parking lot, we decided to pick up all of the litter we could at the camp sites on the south side of the bridge, this filled up the rest of my large heavyduty garbage bag. I had to lug the bag of trash out, along with my camping gear which was not leight at all.. it made me very upset that people left all of this sh*t here.. there is still trash discarded in the bushes that I could not take out as I was already filled up with trash to carry out. I really wish I could have removed it too but It was unrealistic for me to do by myself considering the trail conditions and all of the weight I was already holding. If somebody wants to go remove it; there will be a big campsite at the Southside of the bridge with campsites behind it if you cut through it.. we cleaned up a majority of the visible trash and most of the trash in the bushes, but there is still what looked to be a full garbage bag ripped open in the one bush on the E side of the camp site and W side of the campsite, between the bridge and campsite is the best I can describe it (closer to the waterfall) the bag of trash is ripped open in the bush.. I really hope people stop taking advantage of beutiful places like this before they get blocked off to the public.. Not only that, you are hurting our wildlife.. the one tin can I picked up had fat of some sort in it, which clearly had been bitten into ( it looked like bear bite marks) but what ever bit it, cut them selves as there was blood stains on the can. There was shattered glass all over the one campsite right in between the crownland and conservation reserve on the north west side of the bridge I believe, I had almost cut myself on the glass while picking it up. When we exited the trail, I retrieved another garbage bag from my vehicles trunk and filled it with trash from the parking lot. Again, most of the visible trash was picked up but there was still a few small items scattered in the Bush by the one sign. Its absolutely disgusting that humans can do this, and you best just stay away if you are not going to respect this place. Last thing I need is for ignorant people to get this beutiful peice of land closed off to the public.. I'm only 20 years old and I want to enjoy this place for the rest of my life, so please stop being disrespectful, it's not that hard to carry everything you brought in, back out with you. Have a little respect, do your part and keep it enjoyable for everybody, dont be afraid to contact authorities if you see people causing damage to the land, pick up extra garbage if you can manage carrying it back out.. Good fishing, great swimming lake too. Portage at the falls is worth it to reach the bigger lake, and its plethora of spectacular camp sites.
