A great gem of Georgian Bay. The perfect place to anchor or sit on shore to watch the sunset. The bugs can be bad throughout summer so make sure to bring some bug spray. This is a nature reserve so please make sure to pack out what you bring with you.
Beautiful and quiet
It's a very nice and quiet lake and rapids looked very small, we could portage easily
Very beautiful and peaceful place to actively spend a weekend with family and friends connecting with nature. If you go please be respecful to nature and other people, don't leave garbage after you. If you see any, be an awesome person, pick it up and take it to garbage. Thank you and enjoy!
The western reach of McCrae Lake features a short set of rapids flowing down into Georgian Bay. The rapids are flanked by steep Granite cliffs and boulders to the south and glacier scoured rolling bedrock to the north. Canoe access to McCrae Lake is via easy 50m portage over gently sloping bare rock.
The rapids are one of many natural highlights along the McCrae Lake Conservation Trail and must be traversed in order to complete the full McCrae Lake Loop Hike. Water levels and currents in the rapids vary considerably throughout the season ranging from 2m deep torrents in the spring runoffs to shallow trickles when conditions are driest.
Also of interest nearby, hidden among cliffside Cedars is a tiny shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary graced with makeshift offerings by generations of keen eyed visitors.
Please be respectful and do your part to help keep this area clean and beautiful for future generations to enjoy as well.
