Excellent! We went just before closing and they were out of some stuff, but the chicken roti and veggie samosas were fantastic. Friendly service, too, in the weirdly urban-sketchy-style downtown of Beaverton!
I will definitely be back when I am in the area to try the goat curry, and my dining partner is looking forward to trying the shrimp curry.
The menu is as wide as the vast lake which this small Ontario town straddles. It is likely the most condensed cultural experience you will find in this part of the province, so if you are in the mood for Indian, Thai, Italian, Chinese, Caribbean, or some good old American chicken wings - anything with a bit of spice - then look no further. Some might question the wisdom of attempting to cover such great breadth of cuisine, and it is true that the chicken roti doesn't exactly stand up to what you'll find in the heart of Little India in Toronto (though it certainly beats a few of the joints I've visited there). Why not just do one thing really well, ask the charlatans? The truth of it is Shanta's does many things rather decently. The added bonus was that it could satisfy my large family and spared us quarreling over what type of food to get. Anything you could want for lunch was right there. The service was personal and chummy, if a little overbearing provided you've just emerged from a hellscape of urban timidity. Call it rural charm, if you'd like. Shanta's is everything and nothing one could expect sitting down for lunch on a sunny day, taking in the vibrant bustle of downtown Beaverton.
unique good tasting food.
This is a unique type of restaurant for this area. The food is pretty good considering that.
