“Pick Your Own Amethyst - Although an active Mine you really just go through the Fragments that have already been mined and Pick your Own Amethyst. Lots of good pieces to be found. There's plenty of amethyst around and interesting specimens exist if you take your time. We came on a day where new Mined fragments were just placed, so your mileage may vary. $10 seems a little steep for the "Tour" but we had "free coupons" offered by the Thunder Bay Tourist Centre.”

Ontario Travel Information Centre - Pigeon River

“Opening hours of the Ontario Travel Information Centre - Pigeon River are currently quite limited due to the coronavirus. However, this location is still worth a detour since there are a few beautiful hiking trails. It takes about fifteen minutes north from here to get to a stunning lookout on the shore of Lake Superior. It takes about forty-five minutes south from here to visit the High Falls on Pigeon River.”

Wilderness North

“Since my original review, Krista from Wilderness North contacted me and is offering our group a deeply discounted rate for a future trip. Her professionalism and empathy were greatly appreciated. Based on her response, I have increased the rating to 4 stars (from 2) and will update further after our return trip. We are more than willing to go back as the fishing was never in question. Returning in 2021. A group of 6 guys that have been doing drive in trips for 20+ years and decided to finally do a fly in. If the fishing wasn't outstanding, I'd be a lot more upset and only had 1 star. Here are my main complaints with Wilderness North (WN). #1 we were promised 5 boats, 3 at main cabin and 2 at the portage lake. The portage lake is AWESOME! But, we were very limited because only one of the motors started. This created a little worry for anyone venturing out more than a few miles. We can row, but that didn't appeal much to us. I advised WN during day 2, but nobody did anything. #2 Water pump was bad, they knew it before we got there, it went bad on day 1, so they had to fly someone in and replace it on day 3. He replaced it but when he hooked up the power supply, something was wrong, because we no longer had any power when the sun wasn't directly on the solar panels. #3 We've learned to always take our own CO2 detector, good thing we did. Theirs was broken. #4 Finally, when there is no power, the pump doesn't work, nor does the WiFi. Kind of a safety hazard ... if someone was hurt, there was no way to communicate if the sun was down. #5 I still have not heard back from WN management about the problems we had, doubt I ever will. When 6 guys pay in better than $9,000 ... I expected a little better from their equipment. Make sure you ask a LOT of questions of any outfitter and if they have Sat phones for rent, do it. Better to be safe. Again ... fishing was great, we all caught our largest fish ever. Just wish they had more reliable equipment and better service.”

“My second time sailing with Capt Greg and this go around was just as memorable as the first. His passion for sailing is only eclipsed by his enthusiasm for sharing the beauty of Lake Superior with his guests. A proud Thunder Bay resident / native and experienced sailor. We will be back. Thanks for another wonderful trip!”

“My wife and I celebrated our 9th Wedding Anniversary today. For our day we took a ride from Pool 6, to the Welcome Islands where we were married, down the south shore towards Mink Mountain, up the Kam river to Kakabeka Falls and back to Pool 6. This ride was an awesome opportunity to view Thunder Bay and surrounding area from the sky. Thank you Liam and Chrissy for making our day extra special.”
