“We were taking a stroll on Yonge Street, and decided to stop by Pet Valu to see if there were any dogs up for adoption. We were greeted by the store cat, Nugget. She is the friendliest cat EVER! Even when you are playing with her, the paws never scratch you, and they are super soft :D Don't be surprised if you see food packaging got nibbled on... Nugget's behind it lol. We also met Benson aka BenBen, who was up for adoption. This cat has been in the store since early June 2022. He has a grumpy face but loves belly and chin rubs! Hope he gets adopted soon :) The store is very bright and clean, the aisles are stocked, and staff are very friendly and welcoming here. Pet-friendly, you can certainly bring your pets in and roam around the store! . . . UPDATE August 18, 2022: Sadly, didn't see Nugget in the store yesterday, and we also didn't see BenBen either :D I hope he is with a lovely family now!”

“Three weeks ago I was sitting in my front yard with two of my dogs and a homeless man came by with his dog in tears. He said he could no longer care for his dog and left him with me. I knew the dog had some health issues that I could not financially afford, so I reached out to Mattie’s Place and spoke with Denise. I explained the situation and without hesitation she agreed to take Coco. It turns out Coco needed all of his teeth removed; he also had an enlarged prostate, enlarged heart, and liver disease. Denise and Mattie’s Place did not let this dissuade them from giving this dog a chance. Coco had the best of cafe and got the surgeries he required, but sadly his liver disease is taking a toll on him. I’ve spoken with Denise and we believe the best option now is to not allow him to suffer. This is truly heartbreaking for all people involved, including his current fosters. He is truly such a wonderful dog. I cannot express my gratitude and appreciation for all that Mattie’s Place has done without hesitation or concern for cost. They truly do put the animal first.”

“Prices are quite bad, and stock has progressively shifted towards more and more overpriced alternatives over time, at least as of my last visit. Most pet stores tend to be overpriced around here, so it's not the most egregious by any means but, eh. For random essentials that are needed quick/near your home it's good to have it nearby, but you're generally better off getting things online or elsewhere.”
