I liked the professionalism of the doctor and the knowledge (hence the 5 star rating) but...much like the 2 negative reviews below, we had a bit of an issue when it came to the invoice.
I wouldn't call their practice shady because it doesn't come across as that, but it is not straight-forward.
On the phone, we were told that the exam and visit would be $224: a balance which would have to be prepaid over the phone before booking the appointment (a bit weird but no problem here is my card number...). We were also warned that any "additional tests" would be extra.
This is where it gets a little confusing...
When someone says "the exam and visit is $..." follows up with "any additional" and immediately begins the appointment with the nurse doing 3 (standard: tear test, dye test and pressure test) eye tests without warning you that these are the "additional tests", one understandably assumes that everything thus far is part of the pre-paid visit cost.
The rest of the appointment (after the tests) seemed like a routine check up that didn't require any testing of sorts leading me to take a deep breath thinking "wow no additional tests were required, lucky us!".
After the visit, we received a copy of the receipt (for the $224 previously paid over the phone), the estimate for the recommended surgery, and an additional invoice for $206 to cover the "additional tests" which turned out to be the 3 tests that were ran minutes upon entering the examination room.
At that point, I was a little overwhelmed by the quote for the surgery and perhaps not able to fully get my point across to the doctor, who took the time to come out of another exam to explain the invoicing structure to us. So... here is a written review after sleeping on it to better explain how it felt to us:
Once again Dr. Whelan was knowledgeable and professional, most importantly he took the time to diagnose the concerns we had. The last thing we want to do (we are also self-employed and understand running a business) is try and damage someone’s reputation over a misunderstanding (once again hence our 5 star rating here), but we felt the need to better explain what happened to hopefully give them the "customers side/view" of the situation. Hopefully they can revise their policies so it can be explained better to new customers in the future.
    Cheers!
    Marc

Caring, attentive, fair and very knowledgeable when it comes to a variety of eye issues for your furry companions.
