A neat place to find your groceries and some other specialty stuff. The price tend to be higher than the regular stores
I love to support local and the friendly staff and service here are excellent. The have a great little bakery and deli and a good selection of produce as well as name brand food products throughout the store, unfortunately they don’t really cater to an Asian style diet so pickings are a little slim in that department with just the bare minimum generic and cliche items available also vegetarian or vegan items are difficult to find.
Although the produce section is well stocked with basic fresh items.
I really want support this place more but I find the pricing in most cases is at least 25% more than they should be and seem dedicated to Tourist trap style pricing rather than catering to local residents especially noticeable in the dairy and meat departments but also in the snacks, prepare to pay full rocket for pop or juice and snacks, which on average are 40% more than the norm, I really believe and wish that they would work with their suppliers to develop better pricing for their local customers many of whom are elderly and are unable to travel to Salmon Arm or Vernon for a lower grocery bill, most locals who can, choose to purchase their groceries elsewhere because of the high prices here, this is sad because Askews clearly loses business because of this.
The trick with Askews is to pick and choose carefully, wait for deals and support them where you can.
Askews is an Okanagan gem, and a surprisingly heavy hitter in the grocery game in their area. They’ve got tons more selection packed into a smaller footprint than you’d expect, and the staff are great. The new Salmon Arm uptown location is practically a work of art just in the building scheme, plus the above mentioned selection and good staff. I know some hardcore Askews-only shoppers, and I get it! If I lived in a town they were in, I think this would be my go-to place as well 👍🏻
