The hike in the forest climbs gradually, once you get above the tree line, you get splendid views on mountain ranges and the glacier of course. Total altitude gain somewhere between 300 and 400 meters. We were there end of June and had no trouble finding parking space.
As a moderate hiker, the first 2km is a moderate uphill, the next 2 km is relatively flat and the last 1km ish is just uphill with rock so slightly harder to hike. When you are at the top, there's a waterfall on the right hand side, just note to self to reach the waterfall is a lot of work(uphill plus sliding rocks) but the view at top is very peaceful
Great hike! Went beyond the regular trail onto the ridge near the glacier. Two stream crossings, lots of skree to scramble, beautiful views. The regular trail up to the valley/meadow was an easy trail.
This is a lovely hike. I love that it is left mostly untouched and natural. It is pretty challenging though. It isn't the grade so much as the distance and path condition. It really should be considered moderately difficult. I saw it advertised as mostly accessible some places, and that really is not accurate. The park guide, if you can find one, has an accurate description, but the label says moderate.
Absolutely fantastic hike. Lots of elevation gain. It's a long scramble up a rocky ridge line to get to the foot of the glacier. Very rewarding views.
