Located in the new Brentwood food court, you order on a touch screen monitor at the front.
Tried the Saboten set and shrimp curry. The curry was good and they had big pieces is shrimp. Lot of rice (which I suppose is good with the curry sauce) but dishes seem a bit over priced for food court with minimal service interaction.
Saboten offers mainly Japanese style Deep fried Croquettes, Pork cutlets, breaded prawns served with rice and Miso soup. It's filling and the price is very reasonable. They just need to serve sauce with the cutlets, sort of oyster sauce or okonomiyaki sauce type The shop is super clean and staff are very polite and friendly.
I’m surprised by the really low reviews of this spot. When it first opened the lines were very long.. but that is no longer a problem. They now have very quick service. I had the set and I was happy with all 3 proteins. I was a bit confused about which sauce was for which thing, but at least there are options (in case you don’t like one). It’s a pretty cool food court option and definitely worth a try.
Went on a weekend afternoon and there was no line. Ordered a Saboten set and the food was served quickly. Staff were polite and efficient in their work.
The katsu was crunchy on the outside and the pork and chicken was still moist inside. The panko crust did fall off the chicken and the pork after one bite, so it wasn't perfect. The various sauces and seasonings were great for the dish, but there was no explanation as to which sauce was for which part of the set. That would have been nice.
Yes, there was a fair amount of rice, but it tastes great with the seasoning so even if it's more than what's necessary, it's still good.
