We decided on the North Trailhead as our intro to Mantario because it is easier terrain than the south end with closer campsites for shorter days and more access to water. We felt this was a good start to getting a feel for the trail before we attempted the whole thing another time.”

“In spring 2023, on an improvised road trip through beautiful Manitoba, we had an unforgettable stay at the Big Whiteshell Lodge in the middle of Whitesell Provincial Park! This place is beautifully situated right at the Big Whiteshell lake, with amazing views and trails, boat rentals, a pub/shop with an amazing patio overlooking the lake and very friendly staff. Host Garry knows all the places and can give directions to beautiful Castle Rock on the lake and various other spots you can get to with the provided both rental. Trust Garry, as the beauty of these spots will leave you in awe! The lodge is recently renovated (by Garry himself!), is super modern & clean, comfortable, and well organized. Our cabin had 2 bedroom and with a huge gazebo. The store from the lodge is also extremely convenient, as Garry supplies it with all types of food, including frozen sushi & steak, liquor, snacks, various fishing and camping supplies. We cannot recommend this place enough. We consider this the highlight of our Manitoba trip. Garry is a wonderful host and the area is beautiful! Must visit!”

“Had lunch here on a holiday Monday and it was good. The service was very good. I was disappointed in the fish and chips as it didn’t come with a lemon wedge and came with mayo instead of tartar sauce, both very important! In their defence I probably could have requested it. My mom ordered a cheese burger and said it was garlicky…why? Fries were good and the gravy as well. Good selection and nice atmosphere. I’ll try again.”

“I pre-booked 5 cabins for my sons wedding in June, and Heather and her husband Gary took very good care of us. All of our cabins were along the water with beautiful views of the lake with majestic sounds of the loons at night. Our check-ins were smooth, and when we forgot to bring foil and condiments for a BBQ, they even lent us their own. The cabins were very clean, and the resort was very quiet. I didn't give the resort a 5 star because you can't drink the water or use it to brush your teeth as there are too many tannins in the water, and all of the Whiteshell area has this problem. We brought our own water, and Heather and Gary also sell 5 gallon water bottles in case you need some. Although the porches have screens to keep out the mosquitos, the screens have large spaces where they still get inside. I would definitely recommend staying at Jessica Lake, and I would return just for a weekend getaway. We had a lovely stay with our families, and are very thankful that Heather & Gary were able to accomodate us!”
