“This is a very nice campground. Close in, nice beach, super friendly staff. Easy bike ride to nearby Nine Locks Brewery and pub next door to it. Short drive to ferry for Halifax. Great shopping mall (Dartmouth Commons) also an easy bike ride. Some of the sites are not very level...we could not stay in the first site offered us but the staff worked miracles with a very tight schedule ti accommodate.”

And, being minutes from downtown Halifax or Dartmouth makes it great for impromptu visits. Bring sunflower seeds in the winter and chickadees will literally land on your hand to eat them!”

“Nice centre, certainly now that there is a little concession stand. The trails are very nice and explain the history of the locks. The river is cool too and is a very nice little ride in your kayak or canoe and links to a lake Charles.”

“Total 5 star. More than just a canal with a lock. There are lots of well maintained trails and many "off the beaten track" too. The wild life are very used to people. We had ducks, squirrels, and pigeons walking all around us.”

Shubie Dog Offleash Park

“A great off leash park with long paths and plenty of woods for dogs to explore. The Dartmouth equivalent of Point Pleasant Park. There’s a beach area designated off leash as well for dogs to splash and swim in during the warmer months. Water is clean and people swim with their pets all the time. Garbage cans throughout the trails for poop bags and there’s poop bag dispensers at the park entry points. Good recall with your dogs is a must and most dogs and owners that frequent here are friendly.”
