Needs alittle TLC but you can't beat the LOCATION...it's minutes from The Dancing Goat Cafe and Cabot Golf, the highlands , etc .
Was is outdated? Yes. Was it clean, comfy, and affordable? Very much so! Nice beach across the street, and dog friendly. If you want the Ritz stay at the Ritz. This was just fine after staying in the Park all week. I didn't come to Cape Breton for the hotels. Only thing is it may be warm in the summer. Temperature was perfect in the fall.
This was my first time staying in Whale Cove. Every summer we try to book it and it is always full but we lucked out this year and I am so glad we did. Linda, the lady at the front desk, was super friendly, helpful and so kind. I can't say enough about her. I not only made a new friend in her but we loved it so much we are going back in 2 weeks. We are also hoping to go back next summer. She made a difference in our stay for sure. We originally had a spot booked for Cheticamp but because of her hospitality and the wonderful time we had in the 4 days we were there, we are coming back in 2 weeks time. Even with no air conditioner or bbq we had a blast and with the breeze from the screened porch we didn't need an air conditioner. One of the nights we stayed it rained but it was nice to still sit outside in the screened in porch. We kept dry and didn't get bitten by the mosquitoes. There was lots to do. Cheticamp is only a 30 minute drive, Margaree Harbor is just up the road, where the water was a bit warmer or if you just prefer the quiet it is perfect. There was even one night where someone had fireworks on the beach which we could see and hear from our cabin. The cabins are outdated yes but the bathroom was clean, bed was clean and tidy and it had everything you need. I can't wait to go back!
What a great place with an amazing view. Yes the rooms are a little outdated (definitely could use the carpet replaced with flooring) but everything else is exactly as described. Rustic. This is the perfect place for a family looking for a spot near the beach/ocean. The people running it are so cheerful and friendly and amazingly helpful. True Cape Breton hospitality!
It's perfect for a family to step back and have a nice relaxed vacation. The cabins are a little rustic and not modern but I wasn't going to sit inside all the time. The cabin was clean and fairly well equipped. It's very close to the Cabot trail and is well placed for day trips. The cell phone signal was a little spotty and wifi only worked near the office but with the sunset view it was worth it. For those that spend time near urban centres, the night sky is totally amazing.
I think the only thing I would like to see improved would be the exterior play structures for the kids. Add in a beach volleyball and a few horseshoe pits and it would be perfect.
Definitely going back again.
