“I gave 4 stars because the staff are usually very helpful, but my experience yesterday made me angry. I was in to do some shopping before work. Was paying cash, and as usual there was no sign of a cashier to assist. As I stood at #2 check out, with 2 people behind me, an employee arrived. Instead of coming to cash register, she stood at self check out and insisted that we use that. Lady behind me, who was paying debit, said she wanted to have personal attention instead of a machine. The reply from the employee was "I'm a person and a cashier" and the customer was told to be nice. That comment was not required as customer was quite polite. I spoke up and said I'm paying cash. I was informed that I was at wrong check out and was told to move. Not too politely either. This employee could have said to us that she understands that not everyone likes those machines, but she is glad to help. That's customer service. I work in retail so I know what I'm talking about. I know that self check outs are the way to go these days, but Essex has a big senior population and most seniors don't like to use them. Your employees should understand this and adapt to whatever situation arises.”
