“OK, I admit to being one of “those” parents who conducts a tonne of research and demands the best for my kids. If’ I’m signing them up for something, I want them to have a great experience. After all, they’re only young once. Which is why I’m glad I signed my four year old up for Zodiac’s day camp. For four weeks he got to try everything from cooking to rock climbing to science and robotics to magic. He even held a snake. Every day he came home and told us about the cool stuff he did (and learned). Whether he dressed as a superhero for theme days or got to meet real heroes during a fire/police/EMS visit, his days were full and he came home happy (and tired). Even better: we chose Zodiac because they also run their own swim school and provide swimming lessons every day. After a few false starts with other programs, we wanted “the driest kid in the class” to learn to love swimming. Mission accomplished. Our kid, who used to spend most of his swimming lessons negotiating to stay out of the water was thrilled to show us how he jumped in by himself, put his face in the water and kicked up a storm…it was cute, but we had to explain the difference between the pool and his bathtub at home  His counsellors were well-trained and attentive, and as a parent I appreciated frequent updates and communication from Camp staff. We couldn’t have asked for a better first camp experience and look forward to sending him (and his little sister) next year.”

Glen Rouge Campground

“I was surprised that there was an actual campground inside the city. You can bring in a trailer or use a tent and camp by the Rouge River. I don't know how much it costs, but it is open in the summer. If you want to go camping without driving for hours, this place is close and you can't even tell that you are in the city. There are trees and a river and you cannot see any signs that you are not in a campground far from the city. This is part of the Rouge National Park now. If you wander through the forest, you can get to the Toronto Zoo, but I would not do that. I am not sure if it is allowed. There are also plenty of Pokemon to be found here. That is how I found this place the first time.”
