“We used to get takeaway from here quite regularly. Very nice website, it was very nice food. Now Sooke has a local Indian restaurant we love so we don’t go here anymore in the last year. Five Spice is a little takeaway spot inside a convenience store in Happy Valley and it was such a gem of a find when we moved to Sooke from up island. We were in the neighborhood last Saturday night and decided to call in an order. We get there, the guy at the counter told me that it’ll be 2 minutes. Finally we get our order 15 minutes later after multiple people come to pick theirs up, very busy night. We ordered the Palak Paneer, Butter Chicken, lamb biryani with a couple of naans and sides of plain rice as well as coconut rice. The paneer dish was great, spice level spot on. The other dishes that were our usual picks were unfortunately not great. The butter chicken lacked its depth of flavour and the biryani was a tad dry, flavours were there but it was as if the volume was turned way down. Lamb itself was decent but biryani is usually a bit more moist and comes with a side of raita but tonight it didn’t. The coconut rice was interesting, not sure if that’s their own version but it had fried bits of the coconut cream which lent a toasty flavour but left the rice quite oily. And then the naans. Oh dear, it was nothing like we’ve had before when the naan is sort of light and bubbly almost. It was the opposite. The naan were like flat bread. Thick and heavy. I’m thinking since it was very close to closing time on a Saturday they were just super busy and were pumping out so much food that the quality suffered a bit.”

“Excellent little place for tapas! Service is fantastic and all menu items were delicious. Some favorites were the tempura shrimp, the beef tenderloin, and the clam chowder. Would have ordered more plates if we could have afforded it! While the wine list is extensive, it would be nice to see more selection for wines served by the glass. Place is very clean, and the front of the restaurant is accessible for wheelchairs. Was very quiet went we went in for an early dinner, but our server mentioned almost all of the tables were reserved for later that evening, so reservations are recommended for popular meal times.”

“Great friendly staff, and the most important thing is food us just delicious… my friend tried the cauliflower appetizer and cal chowder, have they say really good! I love my lamb kebab plate; it opened up my appetite so I ordered the rubbed ribs which is just so delicious… dry on the outside but soft on the inside. Really enjoyed everything. Only took a pic of the lamb, before I realize I finished the ribs already… will come back again”

“Overall a decent Thai place. Besides the keen service from waitresses nothing stood out. After we are seated we ask for hot water so our waitress went to fetch it. Then perhaps another waitress saw that we aren’t given water so she poured us standard two glasses of water with ice. I’d say there’s miscommunication there. Other then that, their pleasant attitude and service are nice. My order of a lunch special for minced beef with basil and rice is alright. The minced beef is slightly spicy (the menu and waitress have mentioned it) with basil leaves. But I do find the beef on the salty side. The soup that came with includes plenty of chopped celery and carrot. The vegetables have cooked well with the liquid. And the spring roll is wrapped with vermicelli. This restaurant seems to be a popular lunch spot for business workers. Not only is there’s a bar and tables could be put together to accommodate larger groups.”

“The Sushi Mago restaurant looks great! They’re not listed on any eatery websites I could find so I added them to TripAdvisor. They are closed Tuesdays but open all other days 11:30am-2:30pm and 4:30pm-8pm. They have an extensive Japanese menu with pretty typical prices for Victoria Japanese food. Note: Phone number on the menu is (250) 590-2841. They had just closed when I got there so I haven’t got to try them yet. “Very nice renovation from what used to be here. The views from the lounge are great, year round, and invite the guests to the restaurant. The service was friendly, quick, and very professional. During my two dining experiences, I had 2 to 3 different staff come by several times to check on things or otherwise assist. It's clear it's more than just one server dealing with you. The food, was very good! I got their Wagyu Steak Surf and Turf special. It was a true Australian Wagyu as advertised, and tasted delicious. It was probably the most expensive item on their menu, but I felt it's still one of the best values for Wagyu steak available in BC. Steak was done properly to medium rare as requested. The shrimp were one of the best shrimp I've had anywhere. It could be that they were sitting in the Wagyu fat, but whatever it was, I enjoyed them just as much as the steak. I came a second time for Happy Hour and their fish and chips was a nice option too. Their fries are really nicely done. Thick, crisp, but have a nice soft centre. Calamari was decent, but had better elsewhere. I will admit, that although the food is very tasty, fresh, and otherwise perfect, the portions are smaller than most restaurants. I generally have an average appetite, but both meals left me feeling hungry for more, where I'm usually satisfied after my meals elsewhere. I was staying at the hotel for work, so they gave a 20% off voucher for the restaurant. With that, it made the meal much more reasonable, but I would have been content paying full price if I were coming here another time. Edit: The photo of the Wagyu Surf and Turf shows fries which I had substituted instead of the mashed potatoes.”

“I've been regularly eating at Floyd's since 2007 and this location has the same excellent service and food as all the other locations. I am slightly disappointed I can't have breakfast here as I start work at 7:30am, but at least I can duck out for lunch from time to time. Edit: This is a brand new location and it's VERY popular, with probably the largest parking lot between all other locations. I've since eaten here at 8:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm respectively, across multiple weekends and weekdays. Expect a wait between 10am and 2pm. This is pretty much on par with all locations though, and is due to their popularity. I come here for the quality food, attentive service, and nostalgic atmosphere. I wouldn't recommend it for a "quick bite" after 8:30am. Being "too popular" can be a bit of a course, but it won't stop me from coming back from time to time.”

It was a very cold snowy day, and I asked for hot water, and our server was so kind to bring a pot with some lemon. It’s the little things. Lots of seating space, but there’s a limit of 6 people per table following the covid restrictions. Since we were 6 adults plus a baby we had to be seated on 2 separate tables that were close to each other. Good free restaurant parking.”

“What a little gem that’s been opened just under a month. We just stopped by here for lunch and it was absolutely fantastic. We ordered spicy dumplings, dumpling noodles and Dan Dan mein and enjoyed it. The Dan Dan is not your your classic peanut style but we thoroughly enjoyed it to the fullest. It was an absolute comforting and delicious bite after bite. We also had a sampler of the wonton soup, and let me tell you the umami in the broth and this whole meal is spectacular. Not your average wonton broth at all. We sat outside on the patio tables and enjoyed the perfect hot meal for late fall. I’m very pleased we stumbled this little place. The owner was so friendly and we let him know that we’ll be regulars!”
