“Loved it! Something I've wondered about and so grateful to Brockville for finally opening it up! It's beautiful and very significant historically and sentimentally. I love the water element that has calcified beautifully over the stone.”

“Beautiful view of the St Lawrence and if you're into scuba you don't wanna miss this place. Get there early in the summer as it fills up quickly!! You can also swim off the pier or just sit and watch the huge ships go by. It's also a short walk to the railroad tunnel (you gotta go there) and blockhouse island!”

“Recently I visited another lock station for my project to visit all the lock stations on the Rideau Canal, using my motorbike as transportation. This trip took me to Newboro, lock #36. This is the 14th lock station that I have visited so far as I work my way south to the Kingston Mills Locks. The Newborn Lock wouldn’t be one of my favourites. I don’t think it is as picturesque as others that I have visited, and it is quite busy with boat and car traffic. There is a large marina next door with a large parking lot in a high tourist area near Westport. As a result there were quite a few people, cars and boats there. All is not bad though — there are some really interesting features and history around this lock. First, it has the highest elevation of any lock in the Rideau Canal system. This means that it is down river from the Newboro Lock, whether you go to Ottawa or Kingston. This lock joins the Cataraqui and Rideau Rivers so that water flows downhill in both directions. Another interesting thing about this lock is that it is one of three mechanized locks on the Rideau Canal system. The other two are the Smith Falls Combined Lock and the Black Rapids lock. The canal used to be managed by Transport Canada and they started a program of lock modernization in 1966. In 1972, the lock system was transferred to Parks Canada and a decision was made to end the modernization so that the history of the lock system could better be recognized.”
