“I called first to ask permission to bring my dog, Casper. Yes we can bring dog there. I got an excellent service there, I selected the charcuterie and cheeses plate, I had a try of each wine. The personal were awesome. Gave water to Casper and they where available to took pictures off me self and my dog with the nice countryside.”

“I recently dined at Unsworth Vineyards for the second time. My first experience was wonderful. The second time, unfortunately not so much. The positives: the food is very good. I had the clam chowder bowl and the fungi pizza. Both spot on. Well done kitchen staff. Areas of improvement: service. The service needs to be improved at an establishment that would like to be considered a “fine dining experience” as the prices replicate restaurants of that quality. Issues that stood out: the food brought out to my table was for another customer. The food runner, however, did not bring it back to the kitchen and served it to the other customer. This is a food safe issue and needs to be addressed. In addition, another server brought an unopened bottle of wine and did open nor fill our glasses. We eventually did it ourselves. Again, this is only an issue as the price of the bottle and food warrant this type of service. Again, enjoyed the food and scenery and will likely come back to this establishment.”

“Well worth the visit, if only for the chat with the lovely lady on the door! As Brits we shared our love of Heartbeat with her, and she helped us understand the history of the town. Chinese and First Nation history very rich! We also loved doing the Totem Trail in the main streets opposite. Highly recommend!”

“Super easy walk, wide and smooth gravel trails. Nice views. Lots of family and kids around. The curvature of the trestle makes it a great place for photos. We came here after attempting the Old Baldy mountain hike and a sunny midday. There were lots of families and kids around. The paths are pretty well groomed and you can probably get by with somewhat fancy shoes (maybe not heels) and dress here if needed.”

“I found myself in Chemainus recently visiting a friend who recently moved there and discovered the town was known for its murals. I understand the challenge of moving from a one industry (lumber) town to one that generates revenue via tourism and I can see that the murals helped Chemainus succeed in this goal. While the skill and dedication required to create and maintain the murals and art is impressive, I found the subject matter to gloss over and simplify the history of this place and excessively celebrate the men who created the very industry from which the town is now trying to transition. Yes, there are a few murals and statues that represent the Indigenous peoples of this place but with no context of how they lived on this land for so long before the brief period of over extraction that the lumber industry represents. I found the art piece at "Heritage Square" to be especially disturbing as I thought this was the opportunity to reckon with the impact of resource extraction as the two figures sat surrounded by tree stumps, but instead the plaque recounted a story about hunting snipes. Overall while in Chemainus I felt like I was stepping back in time, to a place that still relies on an oversimplified retelling of history that works to perpetrate the myth of Canada as a peaceful nation of White settlers, along with a couple token Chinese folks, who are doing their darnedest to bring civilization and Christianity to the savages and save them from themselves!”

“We had a delightful experience visiting Rocky Creek Winery. Larry and Barb were gracious hosts! They treated us like family, and we enjoyed the storytelling aspect of learning about the wine. Would definitely recommend!”

“We are never disappointed. We are wine club members so twice a year we are blessed to attend an event (always a class act) when we pick up our selection. We often attend at least once in between to treat ourselves to a "sit back and relax" picnic with friends. We love the fact that even though Charcuterie is available for purchase, bringing your own picnic is welcomed. The staff are so amazing and NOT pretentious. They always have time for us. The wines...the best we have tasted. We have a one suite B&B and this is our winery of choice to recommend to our guests. Just go. 😊”

“Had an absolutely wonderful time with Julie. Such a special experience. Being brought into their tasting room feels like I was invited into her home with their lovely vineyard dog vino. Can’t recommend this place enough, the Valerie wine was amazing.”

“Family-owned winery. The Estate vineyard is one of the largest on Vancouver Island. Owner Xavier is very passionate and knowledgeable about his vineyards, the soil and the climate. You’ll find both Xavier & Maria (his wife) hosting tastings in the Tasting Room. Cherry Point Bistro is open seasonally for casual lunches. You can dine outside on the spacious patio or inside in the garden pavilion. Make sure to see the pavilion’s hand-crafted wooden doors. Ample parking, lovely tasting room.”

“Even though it was a bit cloudy on the day we went, it was a great experience! The walk from the car park to the tower is also very informative due to info signs. I was surprised that you could see the US from the top of the spiral tower and I loved the adventure net. From the top, we saw something swimming in the water coming towards the shore but we could not define what it was. Maybe a bear swimming in the water? Tower viewers would be a great upgrade to the overall experience! I would have loved to know what the swimming object was.”

“The spot is truly beautiful, on the lake, lots of big trees provide privacy between sites. Warning about the logging road that gets you there. My retro 35 year old trailer took a beating on the road in. About 2 km of pot holes on the worst road I have ever driven. It took us an hour to carefully and slowly drive through.”
