“I have been a customer of the Albert J. MacDonald Construction Company since I originally moved to Port Hood in June 2008, where they are headquartered. They did extensive excavation and landscaping work at my, then, property on Marble Hill Road, including installing the septic system. I was astonished that there were no previous Google reviews of this company. Their work is so professional and their prices are so fair and reasonable. This company is, I guess, Port Hood's "secret." I moved to Port Hastings (35 minutes from Port Hood) in December 2020. I needed some demolition and driveway work done for my new property. Of course, I contacted them. They were here today and they did yet another outstanding job for me. If you need the services of truly professional landscaping, driveway, septic, foundation, wharf, etc., contractors, you will NEVER go wrong engaging the Albert J. MacDonald Construction Company. Albert set very high standards, which his sons, and their crew, uphold assiduously. I absolutely recommend them, without ANY reservations.”

“I had tears of joy in my eyes while I watched my daughter ride at Reaching Strides (RSEC)with Nadine’s horses and her coaching. We travelled across Canada to take lessons with Nadine, the owner, because RSEC was highly reviewed and our daughter always wanted to ride there. It is beautifully located in Cape Breton, NS. It was one of the best few weeks of our daughter’s life. She had an absolute blast with wonderful people supporting her and surprising her with trail rides. Nadine understands horses extremely well and our child was placed on several beautiful and loving horses who helped our daughter become a stronger and more confident rider. Nadine loves to help people (any age) on their riding journey. I watched her coach, and she was phenomenally well spoken and encouraging when needed. Our daughter even had a chance (or two) to work with the local farrier! I highly recommend RSEC to any individual who wants to spend some time with beautiful horses and friendly staff. We would be back there every summer if we could!”

“Stumbled on this wonderful place while looking for some lunch service excellent and the food was delicious. We shared a salad with kale and mixed greens, beet, red onions, feta cheese with added chicken. My wife had the soup of the day broccoli, beet and ginger and I had the chicken club sandwich on delicious on house made bread. It was a delicious meal with great service.”

“All of the basic necessities were available. The room was good enough to spend the night. AC has some kind of timer set on it. It kept on switching off after every 30 minutes. It was a warm day and one should realise how painful it can be to sleep without a fan or AC even when you pay around 150dollars per night. Neighbours were sitting outside on the bench till late and we heard them till they were outside. Either they should move the benches or improve the noise isolation. The location is no way near the Real park. The receptionist was gone after 6pm.”

“My wife and I (from North Carolina) are giving Ceilidh Cottages 5 stars because everything was great when we were there for Canada Day 2023. Both James and Tammy are friendly and accommodating. Tammy made sure we were aware of all the activities going on locally and on the property. The other guests were friendly and no one was loud or offensive. The campground and cottages were full. James offered to help us in any way he could, even offering to assist us if we had trouble after we left. Both James and Tammy are genuinely warm and friendly with everyone. They are doing a good job maintaining and improving the campground and the cottages. The RV sites are good sized, and easy to move into. We had a back-in site with FHU. We visited in a 32 foot travel trailer. We will stay at Ceilidh Cottages whenever we are back in Nova Scotia.”

“Very nice place. Location and view is excellent. Staff are wonderful. Breakfast is nice with a good mix of items. Rooms were on the whole good. It'd be great to have a small fridge though. A bit more cleanliness around the taps plus a shower curtain pole that stayed up and that wasn't rusty would help. But this doesn't take away anything from the positives. I'd definitely stay here again.”

“The food was good, the bread wonderful. I had oat bread, buttered and got a side of molasses to drizzle over it, along with fried bologna. I got excited when I could have something similar to a Newfoundland classic breakfast, but Cape Breton style. Also pictured is the remains of a buttery oat meal cake that I split with my friend James, similar to shortbread, and pairs well with jam. It was simply lovely plain. There was also a side of Skirlie, a traditional Scottish concoction made from oats, onions,fat and spices. It tasted like turkey stuffing and while a bit dense had a great flavour. I quite enjoyed the small portion served with my breakfast.”
