“The rainforests and the vagaries of business cycles have covered much of the history of Cumberland and the nearby Coal Creek (Cumberland Chinatown). The Cumberland Museum & Archives brings this rich history back to life with vibrant and engaging exhibits that don't shy from telling uncomfortable truths. From the treatment of early Chinese settlers ("A Place At the Table") to mining conditions in the 1800s to early aboriginal engagement, the museum doesn't hold back. Yet despite all they endured, the happiness and pride of these vibrant and tenacious people shine through. This museum tells their stories beautifully.”

Comox Heritage Airpark

“I did not go into the museum itself but I did walk through the Airpark. There are several military jets and prop planes as well as rescue planes and helicopters on display. Since they are out in the open you can walk right up to them, around and under them. All very cool. If you are in the area it is definitely worth the visit. Expect to take 30 to 45 minutes to walk around depending on how much you examine the plans and read the descriptions/stories. Make sure you don’t just stop at the museum itself as the Airpark is further along the road. The Airpark is free entry and had accessible parking.”

“Incredible museum! So many well-preserved artefacts and interesting displays, and lots of info about the RCAF as well as more personal stories about individual service members/squadrons over the last 100+ years. Definitely worth a visit if you have any interest in the history of the RCAF or Canada's involvement in WWII and beyond. The entrance fee is a pay-what-you-can donation to the museum itself. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They also have a small gift shop with items for adults as well as children. Overall a great spot to spend an hour or so!”

“If you or your kids love trains or are interested in the history of trains in Canada this is the place for you! The staff was so friendly and welcoming. We did all three train tours and I can't say enough good things about them. The restored train cars were so interesting but the best part is the tour guides! The guide was so informative and could answer all the questions my 7 yr old son who loves trains could think of. I really enjoyed the history as well as learning about the process of restoration. The gift shop could be better but it was still pretty good. They have a huge model train set that my son loved, I think we spent at least 30-40 minutes there. The museum is in a very interesting building with some nice displays. We had a fantastic time and I recommend all the tours!”

Haylmore Heritage Site

“What a wonderful spot! Our family visited in July 2018. There is a small gift shop building, open air tent to pan for gold, Mr Halymore's home (not safe to wake inside) at a great near-river site. Check the hours because they have limited hours (may be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday). Another reviewer commented negatively on being asked to leave after spending days using (abusing) the free wifi. Pro tip: it's a heritage site and gift shop, not a public library.”
