“Back in the 1800's in what was then known as Upper Canada, private companies were contracted to build, improve and maintain roads, in return for which they were permitted to collect tolls from users. This museum represents such a cottage. It is a lovely small place that has friendly volunteer staff.”

The Council’s primary aim is to promote, support and assist in the maintenance and development of the unit and the welfare of the soldiers of the Regiment.”

“An intriguing installation. At first we were puzzled as we thought that people in orange morph suits were hanging onto these large inner tubes facing the shore. As you ponder the meaning of this installation or if a commercial is being filmed, you begin to notice that they are a little too immobile and oh so identical. Are these boys meant to be buoys? Do these molded men have legs? Why are they mostly facing the shore? The artists express that the piece symbolize displaced populations and immigration, perhaps the plight of refugees will come to mind... So why is this expressed with only one individual (standard mid-30s man)?”

“Four stars because the price is low and the kids loved the simulator... but be aware the inside portion you pay for is very small. I was expecting at least a train or two to be inside the roundhouse and that is not the case. There is a train cab simulator which was neat but overall a bit disappointing for adults. Checking out the outdoor area is sufficient.”

“Great little thing to pass by and see. I had gone in to talk about some stuff at work. Stopped in and looked through and it was interesting to see all the little things they have there. If your going for your police check expect long wait lines. If your with someone else take turns and see the museum it's worth the couple minutes to just go check if your there already.”

“Lots of paid parking out front. Lovely, modern exhibit that orients you to the site before seeing the historic buildings. Does require some walking so bring comfy shoes.”

“We are visiting from the UK & were looking for a historical interest place to visit. This place is really clean, well laid out & super interesting from a historical perspective! There are multiple buildings with a range of artefacts, photographs and displays with very fine attention to detail. There was even a historian ‘Emily’ who was very knowledgeable & helpful with information about the site. Dressed in costume she was friendly, providing lots of descriptive detail about the wider Canadian / US history. I thoroughly recommend this place a visit.”

“We enjoyed a lot the museum and especially the dinosaurs exhibition. My son is huge Jurassic Park fan and had amazing time in the museum. I personally also loved the architecture and the special exhibits. Enjoyed the walk through the different time periods and the type of design during those times. The Egypt area with the mummy was one of our personal favorite too. The museum is quite big so allow few hours. You can easily spend the whole day there.”

“In June 1823, the town of York (now Toronto) called for proposals for a well to be dug in the market square. In six weeks, it was done. Workers dug through topsoil and then eight feet of rock before they found fresh water. They lined the chamber with bricks and installed a mechanical pump. The well was in use for decades but was capped and is now somewhere underneath the north St. Lawrence Market building. This marker commemorates the well.”

“Liked very much all the optical illusions. It was great for kids, a tad small but still very entertaining...totally worth it. I would just suggest the staff to allow less people at the time to be able to enjoy and go back and forth between displays. There is a lot to take in! so you might need second and third take on many of them.”

Some needle deposit boxes. I left after a few days. Thanks. Kept me and my animals out of freezing weather.”
